What is a web site supposed to accomplish?
The answer to that question depends completely on the business application. In all cases, effective design and maintenance is paramount in order to achieve the desired outcome at the lowest possible cost.
Learning portals are our specialty. For our larger corporate customers we ask, why build a web that's only based on communication, when it could also be designed to meet a large portion of your training needs? It is entirely possible to dramatically reduce the face-to-face training needed within a corporation, by effectively utilizing the power of your intranet. It is not sufficient to simply put information onto web pages. The web, when properly designed according to the actual work needs of the employees, can be super-charged into an Electronic Performance Support System! Simple web sites can be used by small businesses as an inexpensive 'storefront' to the world. Unfortunately, many small web sites are either 'under-designed' or 'overly-complex'. If they're overly-complex they become more expensive to maintain, without providing any additional benefit to the business. If they're under-designed, they provide little or no benefit to the business because they don't effectively market your business.
